The team of Boluda Towage Finland – consisting of crews on board the tugs, office staff, and the management team – holds mainly Finnish citizenship.

In October 2024 Boluda Towage acquired Oy Yxpila Hinaus-Bogsering Ab (YHB), a well-established Finnish towage company founded in 1981 and headquartered in Kokkola. The acquisition includes the harbour and ice-breaking operations, the management, staff, crew, and fleet.
YHB has long been a trusted partner for Finnish industry, operating currently in the ports of Kokkola, Vaasa, Raahe, Kemi (Ajos), and Tornio. On an ad-hoc basis in Pietarsaari, and Kalajoki. The company’s strong local presence, 24/7 availability, and extensive experience in winter ice operations make it a valuable addition to the Boluda Towage Northern Europe port network.
Today, Boluda Towage Finland provides harbour towage and ice-breaking services with a modern fleet of eight tugs, seven of which are ice-class vessels, operating in the Bay of Bothnia under the Finnish flag.

Boluda Towage’s roots in Finland trace back to Oy Yxpila Hinaus-Bogsering Ab, founded in 1981 to provide towage and ice-breaking services for industrial ports in the Gulf of Bothnia. Over the years, the company expanded its fleet from two to eight tugs and built a strong reputation as an experienced ice-breaking operator in Northern Finland.
Operating from Kokkola, our Finnish team combines local seamanship and knowledge of winter navigation with the global standards of the Boluda Towage network. This ensures safe and efficient port operations throughout the year, even in challenging Arctic conditions.

Some recent examples of milestones in Finland:
April 2025 – Acquisition of 90% share Arctia Karhu Ltd
Boluda Towage Finland acquires 90% of Arctia Karhu part of Arctia Ltd, strengthening our harbour towage and ice-breaking presence in Kemi and Tornio.
October 2024 – Acquisition of Yxpila Hinaus-Bogsering Ab
The integration of YHB into Boluda Towage strengthens our position in the Northern European market and connects Finnish towage and ice-breaking expertise to Boluda’s global network.
Winter operations in the Bay of Bothnia
Each winter season, Boluda Towage Finland’s ice-class tugs ensure continuous harbour access in the Bay of Bothnia, supporting vital cargo flows for Finland’s heavy industry and energy sectors.
2023 – Expansion of operations to Raahe and Kemi (Ajos)
In response to industrial growth and increased cargo volumes in Northern Finland, Yxpila Hinaus-Bogsering extended its permanent service network to additional ports before joining Boluda.
